Giannis The “Greek Freak” Antetokounmpo Sets NBA Finals Record

The Milwaukee Bucks beat the Phoenix Suns in game six of the NBA series (by 4 games to 2) to be crowned NBA Finals Champions.

It took 50 years for the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks to win their second NBA championship ring, thanks in large to an incredible Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Antetokounmpo, the “Greek Freak,” scored 50 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and blocked five shots in an NBA finals performance worthy of legends of the game like Michael Jordan and the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant.

Antetokounmpo dominated both defense and offense in Game 6 of the NBA Finals: His 20 points in a single NBA finals quarter are the most in the last 25 years

He is the first player to average over 30 pts, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists per contest while shooting over 60% of field goals in the NBA Finals.

Giannis has a lot of NBA records under his young belt:

  • He became the first player in NBA history to finish a regular season in the top 20 in all five statistics (points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks) in 2016/17.
  • He has been named to five all-star teams and has captained two All-Star teams in 2019 and 2020.
  • Giannis has two Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards, which he won in consecutive years in 2019 and 2020. Along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and LeBron James, the “Greek Freak” is the only player to win the MVP trophy before reaching the age of 26.
  • In 2020 Antetokounmpo he not only won the MVP award, but also the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, making him only the third player in NBA history to win both awards in the same year (joining Michael Jordan who did so in 1988 and legendary Houston Rockets center Hakeem Olajuwon who achieved the feat in 1994).

Even more staggering is the information that Giannis was sick after Game 5 of the NBA Finals, to the point where he received fluid IV treatment
