Russell Westbrook Breaks Oscar Robertson’s record for most career triple-doubles in the NBA

Russell Westbrook Sets Triple Double Record

Russell Westbrook – point guard for the Washington Wizards has broken a long-held record for the most career triple-doubles in NBA history.

The point guard broke Oscar Robertson’s NBA record for the most career triple doubles during a game with the Atlanta Hawks on Monday (in which the Wizards lost by one point). During the game Westbrook completed a triple double (reaching double-digits in points, rebounds & assists) for the 182nd time in his pro-basketball career – eclipsing the record long held by Oscar Robertson (who played pro-basketball for 14 years, 1960 to 1974).

Westbrook ended the game with 28 points, 13 rebounds and 21 assists – and ended the game with a potential game-winning buzzer-beater that was not destine to be – with the Wizards suffering a 125-124 defeat on the night.

“I’m truly grateful for moments like this….Normally, I don’t like to pat myself on the back, but tonight I will.”

– 32 Year old Russell Westbrook

What did the Basketball World Say of this accomplishment ?

  • Oscar Robertson, 82 – said he was “very happy” for Westbrook
  • Magic Johnson (3rd on the all-time NBA triple-double list) said he was “proud” of Westbrook
  • LeBron James (5th on the all-time NBA triple double list) said it was “an incredible feat”.
